Goldman Fire Protection District would like to thank Lake Tishomingo for allowing the Jefferson County Fire Academy and fire departments from the around the area to utilize the lake for training. The Jefferson County Fire Academy used Lake Tishomingo to teach six drafting classes over three days. Drafting is necessary when water has to be used from a natural source such as lake. Drafting is also used to get water from portable tanks that can be quickly set up. Water is then shuttled from a source to the scene of a fire using special apparatus called tankers or tenders.

The Goldman Fire Protection District has been participating in live fire training with other county departments through the Jefferson County Fire Academy. Annual Live Burns are another NFPA requirement. This is one way that helps to train firefighters for safe interior structural firefighting operations, in conditions that are IDLH (immediate danger to life & health).

The Goldman Fire Protection District attended a Hazardous Material class provided by the Jefferson County Fire Academy. Firefighters practiced decon procedures and plugging leaks in a saddle tank from a tractor trailer.

The Goldman Fire Protection District was among a few Jefferson county departments, assisting the Jefferson College Fire 1 & 2 program with extrication class. This great program develops and trains new firefighters. Some of these students will choose to serve here in Jefferson County. We are happy to participate, giving back to the community and to the fire service.

The Goldman Fire Protection District and Mapaville Fire Protection District have been working together to test fire hose. This is a big job that requires time and manpower to complete. Annual hose testing is an NFPA requirement, to make sure that fire hose is adequate for firefighting operations.
